ChildSafe In Chong Kneas Community
We caught up with Laura from our Kaliyan Mith program in Siem Reap, Cambodia, this week to learn more about a ChildSafe event held recently in a local community. ChildSafe community events happen regularly across our program areas, and focus on issues which pose potential risks to children, and how the community can play an active part in reducing or even ending those risks. This particular event, held in Chong Kneas, focused on the theme of drug prevention. Laura tells us more –
“The Kaliyan Mith team organised a range of fun activities to raise awareness about drug issues including showing a short video, a Q&A session about the video and a dancing contest (where the winners were asked questions to test their knowledge of drug related issues).
The event was also used to promote ChildSafe messages and the ChildSafe Hotline number, including distribution of Citizen Tips leaflets, stickers and the Hotline card, plus a prominent display of our ChildSafe Hotline banner.
Nearly 200 children and young people attended the event, plus around 50 caretakers – this was the second community event we have held this year in Chong Kneas, the first was themed around family violence. The feedback from these events has been very positive and the community have asked that we hold more in the future.”
