Mith Samlanh and the Friends-International ChildSafe Team held its Annual Member Meeting at the Mith Samlanh Center. 187 local ChildSafe Network members made up of Tuk-Tuk drivers and motor-taxi drivers joined the event. Ms. Map Somaya, Mith Samlanh Program Director, Mr. Man Phally, Mith Samlanh Program Coordinator and Mr. Van Khemrith, ChildSafe Program Coordinator were also present at the event.
During this special occasion, Mr. Van Khemrith said, “ChildSafe Network Program was established in 2005 aiming at creating a safe environment to protect children from all forms of abuse. We aim at getting community people involved in the act by selecting and training them to be valuable members of the network so they know what do if they identify a child in danger. This meeting has been organized with the purpose of sharing success stories and challenges, facilitating networking amongst members and build team spirit among our members.”
“I appreciate so much all members of our ChildSafe Network for their great work in the cause of working together in protecting children of our community. At this moment we have our old members and newly trained members. Their participation in this network shows their great effort in helping Cambodia to a better future because children are the future of the country” Ms. Map Somaya said during the event.
It is to be noted that starting from very few members in 2005 there are now 3,032 active members participating in the program around the country. These members include Tuk-Tuk drivers, motor-taxi drivers, guest houses, hotel personnel as well as street and beach vendors.
