Access to education is one of the most urgent needs not fulfilled for the poorest and most marginalized children in Lao PDR. In the capital, Vientiane, children live in unacceptable conditions of poverty, deprived of their basic right to education and instead of going to school, work long hours to supplement their family income. Only 76% children complete primary education while a mere 20% progress to secondary education. Numbers drop drastically when considering girls, ethnic minorities, children with disabilities and children from the poorest households. |
