Friends-International has operated a program, Teman Baik, in the post-conflict and post-disaster city of Banda Aceh in Northern Indonesia since 2007, providing direct services to street children, migrant youth and children and youth detained in government centres. Friends-International is now in the process of strengthening the organization’s impact in Indonesia by adapting existing activities in Banda Aceh and establishing a new program tailored to marginalized children, youth and their families in Jakarta. |

Estimates put the number of street living children in Jakarta as high as 8,000 and the number of slum dwellers living in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions as high as 1.5 million. There is urgent need for services tailored to this group and Friends-International intends to fill the gap with the objective of protecting and facilitating the social reintegration of vulnerable children and youth and support their caretakers become financially independent. |
