Sunee’s Journey!

Meet Sunee
28-year-old mum Sunee* lives in the Klongtoei community of Bangkok with her three young children, ages eight, seven, and four. All of her kids attended school. Her husband unfortunately did not help with the family’s expenses.

Challenges
Sunee was facing significant financial instability. Her daily income wasn’t enough to cover basic living costs, and she was in debt of almost $3000 to four people. Every day, she struggled to repay these loans, putting immense pressure on her finances.

Small Business
To make ends meet, Sunee ran a small business selling grilled squid and meatballs, earning at most $15 daily. Unfortunately, all her profits went toward repaying her debts.

Support through ChildSafe
A ChildSafe Agent based in the area recognized Sunee’s situation and referred
her to the Peuan Peuan team. The social workers conducted a family assessment and provided
support in several key areas:

• • School Supplies:
    They provided school materials for one child, helping to reduce household
    expenses.

• • Debt Management:
    Sunee received training on managing her debt and finances, which included
    our latest regional debt campaign materials (see pic).

• • Job Assistance:
    The team helped her find a second job at a tea and coffee shop during the
    day, allowing her to keep her food business running in the evening.
  • Business Support:
    They supplied raw materials and equipment to help stabilize her income and
    break the cycle of borrowing.

Personal Growth
During this time, Sunee separated from her husband but continued to care for her three children on her own. The Peuan Peuan team maintained close follow-up throughout the process.

Success
After six months of support, by May 2025, Sunee had successfully cleared all her debts and started saving money. This means she is now fully able to support her children’s education and run her business sustainably.

The Peuan Peuan team continues to check in with Sunee, ensuring she remains on the path to both stability and success!
