Olympic Gold for our Siem Reap Team!

As the UK celebrated the first anniversary of the 2012 Olympics last month, in Siem Reap Cambodia another Olympic event was taking place – read all about it here, in this piece from our Social work Technical Advisor based there, James Farley…

‘Globalteers’ Global Olympics event took place mid July at the New Stadium in Siem Reap.

With over 700 children and youth from 14 different NGOs taking part the Global Olympics was a great opportunity for Kaliyan Mith to redeem their dismal performance in the ‘Globalteer’ Siem Reap Football League earlier in the year.

High jump!

Of course, it’s the taking part that counts –  but it’s nice to win something every now and then.

54 children and youth from Kaliyan Mith represented “India” in the Olympics and the Kaliyan Mith Team swept the medals board – with the Under 18 team winning an overall Bronze medal, the Under 10s taking the Silver Medal and the Under 14 Team winning the Gold!!

The Golden Ones!

The Under 14 category was the most hotly contested, so a great achievement for the Kaliyan Mith kids to win Gold.

Thanks toGlobalteer for hosting another great event and thanks toKaliyanMith staff for arranging and supporting the team – with special thanks to Kong Sith and Voeng Ratha.’
