Little fishes in the big floods

The flood situation in Bangkok remains critical. Particularly affected among our beneficiaries are those from the Sapansiri community. This from Ann, our Country Program Director in Thailand.

‘ The situation is worsening. The authority has already let slowly the flooding water pass Bangkok. At the moment there are over 300 children among the evacuees at the Government center.

So, I had a chance to observe the center…..it’s good center, good facilities, air conditioning sleeping area, but at the moment a lack of fun activities for kids.

While visiting and talking to staff in the center, I spotted a jar with some little fish in it, it belongs to a boy who was evacuated from Nonthaburi, he came in with his fish but he is not allowed to take it with him in the sleeping area. So the staff kept it safe on the table, on the first floor, where he can see his pals everyday…so I thought, even he’s away from his home, but it’s not too bad when he has some fish friends to look and relax…good emotional support I guess…

24th October, afternoon

I went to Flood Relief Operations Centre (FROC) in order to receive some support in food and basic survival stuff. Thanks to the staff of DSDW under MoSDHS who helped facilitate  receiving this support.

Now Peuan Peuan has 65 bags, packed with basic dry food and snacks, diapers, sanitary towels, basic medicine. 50 dozen units of drinking water and some 200 paracetamols and 120 tiger balm…

…as you as see we need more.

There are still over 300 people, including 100 children (15 small ones) in the community.

All bags have been packed with items for basic need, they are ready to be delivered to children and their family , but the water level keep rising and strong. I’m trying to get support to use Army trucks though the local authority, hopefully tomorrow or the day after these items can be delivered  to Sapansiri Community…’
