Bangkok floods latest – situation worsening for vulnerable families and children

Ann,  our Country Program director for Thailand has sent us this report on the worsening situation in Bangkok.

‘On Monday 17th October, our outreach team went to Sapansiri Community, which has been severely hit by the flood waters. People and children in the community evacuated to stay in a Temporary Evacuation Center in Prachatipat School located opposite the community. There are about 300 people, there including children (approximately 100 children and youth), but the center has capacity to take up to 600 people, so it is shared for the neighbors. In the center, 3 meals and basic medication are provided, and school teachers assist in monitoring the center 24 hours.

Peuan Peuan (our Friends program in Bangkok) continues activities as long as they can access the area, providing some basic personal hygiene, and other activities.

Now, on Friday 21st October, our Peuan Peaun team has been informed from the key person in community that the floodwater level has gone over one meter.  People and children have now moved to second floor of the school.

Now they are in real need of drinking water, powder milk for small children, diapers, sanitary towel, and also mobile toilet.’

We’ll continue to post updates as they come in. You can support our work in Bangkok by making a donation through bank transfer to the account below – please let us know by e-mail to info@friends-international.org if you need a receipt.
