{"id":5269,"date":"2017-07-04T16:23:19","date_gmt":"2017-07-04T09:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/?p=5269"},"modified":"2017-07-04T16:23:19","modified_gmt":"2017-07-04T09:23:19","slug":"bordering-crisis-migrants-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/index.php\/bordering-crisis-migrants-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Bordering On Crisis \u2013 Migrants At Risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 360px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-5269-1\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/BorderJuly.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/BorderJuly.mp4\">http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/BorderJuly.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>The enforcement of a new Royal Decree cracking down on illegal migrant workers in Thailand has resulted in increasing pressure on <a href=\"http:\/\/3pc-cambodia.org\">3PC<\/a> partners within the last two weeks who work with migrants at the Poipet\/Aranyaprathet border between Cambodia and Thailand, and has also impacted upon work our Peuan Peuan team and others are doing in construction camps in Bangkok city.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5275 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Migrants Border July 1\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture4-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture4-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture4.jpg 1478w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Over just five days this week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.damnoktoek.org\/html\/\">Damnok Toek<\/a>, who operate a drop-in center for deportees in Poipet along with 3PC partners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Peuan-Peuan-621087658019692\/\">Peuan Peuan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krousar-thmey.org\/\">Krousar Thmey<\/a>, recorded over <strong>70 trucks<\/strong> bringing deportees back across the border into Cambodia. Of the<strong> 3,643<\/strong> deportees recorded from those trucks, <strong>1,296<\/strong> were women and <strong>392<\/strong> children.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5273 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture1a-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"Migrants Border July 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture1a-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture1a.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3PC partners are mobilizing their networks in the area, including the local authorities, to respond to this unprecedented influx and to ensure that services and support can be provided for migrants\u00a0as they continue to stream over the border.In Bangkok, Peuan Peuan and partner Better Life Foundation are currently not able to provide services to their target populations in construction camps \u2013 some have closed down and the both legal and illegal migrant children and families involved are suffering as a result. Some of them have been arrested, while others have gone into hiding. Peuan Peuan continues to closely monitor the situation there and in other provinces, where a similar pattern is in evidence. Arrests are taking place in Pattaya, Rayong, Sa Kao and along the Thai\/Cambodia border, and at Me Sort, Tak province on the Thai\/Burmese border hundreds of unregistered Myanmar workers have returned or have been arrested &amp; deported.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5274 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture3-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Migrants Border July 3\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/picture3.jpg 1478w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3PC have a challenging time ahead as the Thai authorities in Aranyaprathet have confirmed arrests and deportations will continue, and employers are continuing to lay off their illegal migrant workers, increasing risks of abuse and exploitation to them.
