She was actually the first student to join the training!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From Champasak province in southern Laos, Joy&#8217;s childhood was very happy and comfortable with her parents and two siblings. She loved going to school and excelled in her studies, always being the top student of her class. However, life changed drastically for the family when circumstances led to her parents divorcing and her mum being forced to sell everything the family owned to cover their debts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5578\" src=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/joy-main-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/joy-main-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/joy-main-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/joy-main-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/friends-international.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/joy-main.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The village chief knew about Friends work and talked to Joy about our cooking vocational training. <strong>She was really enthusiastic about it and decided to join the training.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005e9d;\"><em><strong>&#8220;I\u2019m extremely grateful that [Friends] accepted me in their program.\u00a0 Even though my family is very poor now, life is not over for me. I have hope and will keep trying my best!&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since joining this year, <strong>she has already learned the basic of cooking and hygiene<\/strong>. She\u2019s very passionate and works hard to do her best.<em>&#8220;I enjoy my time a lot at Let\u2019s Eat! I have made some really good friends, it feels like a big family!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Over the next few months, Joy will be trained on customer service and business management\u00a0so she could launch her own business after she graduates.<\/p>\n<p>When we ask her what her dream for the future is, she answers:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005e9d;\"><em><strong>&#8220;My dream is to open my own restaurant one day. It doesn\u2019t have to be big, a small restaurant would be perfect.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/span><em>And I will also be serving the best hibiscus juice with the recipe I learned here (my favorite drink!)<span style=\"color: #005e9d;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>* Name changed to protect identity.
